August Already

Tracy and I vacationed in Fargo in July. I hear you snickering out there, you snickerers. For the record, I like Fargo. Nice town.

We visited Tracy’s sister and her family. Those kids know how to show out-of-towners a great time. We all slipped out of North Dakota and into Minnesota for three days of R & R on Detriot Lake. Picture Perfect.

July was so perfect, in fact, that if it lasted any longer, I just might not have made it back to work.

Ah, yes. Work. It turns out that work was still there when I returned. And lots of it. An overwhelming heap of it. I’ve now comfortably slid back in the groove. It’s the initial ‘getting back into it’ that hurts when vacation ends. Reality lifts up on its haunches and exhales a staleness into the air.

And now August is here signalling the dying days of summer and the coming of crisp nights. For a sad bastard like me, the bittersweet arrival of autumn is an old friend long missed.

August, already. It’s none too soon.

Amen

links for my new iPhone

Yep. Geekboy got a new toy. Shiny new iPhone.

Problem is, I hate typing the url in on the keyboard. That’s what this entry is all about. A place to publish links using my laptop so I can simply click and go on the iPhone. Cheesy. But effective.

Another Try

Another try at cleaning the flickr css (ugh) and javascript (sucks).

What I did was to remove the javascript and index the thumbnails directly. I could put the links back in for each thumbnail but I’m thinking not. Rather, I would put a bit-o-javascript to have the thumbs control a larger portrait just to it’s right and a text box with the flickr description just below the thumbs+picture. There would still be a flickr badge linking to the original set.

I need (want) a piece of code where I simply give it the original flickr widget code and it resolves all the image urls and generates the block of code I describe above.

In a second incarnation, I’d simply have a 2 col widget in my sidebar which would like directly to the flickr set.

(all in my spare time, baby!)

Flickr Snickr

I’m looking at adding my snaps to flickr. Here’s a few from my trip to Hyderabad last year. It was a glorious day on the Deccan Plateau.

The flickr code is bloated and if I decide to keep it, it’ll need a css trim. Again, it seems a bit large for the sidebar but perhaps an alternate 2 column set will work.

Breaking the Law

I now have a myspace account. Why? just because.

Note: Someone else has already secured redleopard as her myspace url. No hard feelings. I was late to the party. My url is the alternate spelling, www.myspace.com/hongbao.

I haven’t yet done much with my account (you noticed) so it begs the question a second time: why?

Well… redleopard.com is my little sanctuary, a place where I can blather on about whatever. But I like the tidiness of my little blog. Almost Prussian in it’s retentiveness.

But there are times I want to fingerpaint. You know, get all the paints out and just smear it all over the page, the table, the walls. Paint just dripping on the floor. And that is myspace. No one ever cares that a myspace page looks like crap. In fact, I think a tidy myspace page misses the point.

Now, there you have it. The why. In a world of web design, of rules, of clients, of standards–it’s a release valve to have some place to go break the law. That someplace is myspace.

The LastFM Quilt

I’m on the fence on whether or not to add the LastFM quilt to my blog. It’s a bit large. If I see it in the post for a week and still like it, maybe it goes in the REVERB sidebar. (and, of course, I’ll clean up their css.)
