The Art of Peace 2

One does not need buildings, money, power, or status to practice the Art of Peace. Heaven is right where you are standing, and that is the place to train. –Morihei Ueshiba

  1. This stanza echos of Jose Ortega y Gasset:

“We cannot put off living until we are ready. The most salient characteristic of life is its urgency, ‘here and now’ without any possible postponement. Life is fired at us point-blank.”

There are always excuses as to why now is not the right time. We cannot be any more ready right now than we are. And whatever you are doing right now is your training. If I am being slovenly right now, then I’m training to be slovenly. Training is nothing more than what I do.

But notice that directed training–training that serves your chosen purpose–has a very different quality and produces very different results than random training.

Lastly, Heaven is right where you are standing. Or Hell. You choose.
